Our Team

Pittsburgh Mediation Group provides a panel of experienced mediators and trainers offering an appropriate fit for your dispute resolution or training needs. Our business model utilizes the co-mediation model, when appropriate, and works with attorneys, or other professionals who are experienced with and support the mediation process, to avoid the costs of litigation at the expense of on-going relationships.

Rick Rogow, J.D., Mediator

Rick has been practicing mediation and conflict resolution since 1977. He is principal and Program Director of The Pittsburgh Mediation Group. An experienced neutral, Rick was first trained by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Dispute Resolution and Mediation in 1977. Rick is a pioneer in the mediation field, helping create CDR Associates, in Boulder, CO in 1977. Rick has conducted over 500 mediations relating to workplace conditions, family law and child custody, estate & elder law. Presently, Rick is an approved mediator for the US District Court, Western District of PA; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; the US Postal Service; and the TSA.

Rick is a Certified Elder Law Mediator, has Advanced Training Certification from The Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Association for Conflict Resolution. He presents workshops for the Federal Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association, Westmorland County Bar Association, the Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Pennsylvania, The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Institute, the Pittsburgh Public School System, and the Woodland Hills Public School System. He is a Member of the Board of Directors for the Mediation Council of Western PA; a member of The Steering Committee for The Kaplan Lecture; past member of the ADR and Elder Law Committees of the Allegheny County Bar Association; the American Bar Association; the Association for Conflict Resolution. Rick is Risk Manager for the Pittsburgh Chapter of C.I.S.V. (Children's International Student Villages).

Rick received his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and his J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. 

Bernie Behrend, J.D., Training Director

With 26 years of mediation experience, Bernhard Behrend is one of the most experienced mediators in the Pittsburgh area. In addition to his private mediation practice, Bernie mediates for the Family Division of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the US Postal Service, the US District Court, Western District of PA, and FINRA.

Bernie is Immediate Past President of the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania and a founding member of Mediators Beyond Borders. Bernie is also a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, The Pennsylvania Council of Mediators, and the ADR Committees of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the PA Bar Association.

Bernie earned the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) while working as a Workplace Relations Specialist with the Mercy Health System. Prior to that position, he worked as an investigator with the Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations.

A popular lecturer & trainer on mediation & conflict resolution for various state and local bar associations, Bernie is an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University’s School of Leadership & Professional Advancement where he teaches: “Conflict Resolution”; “Mediating Organizational Disputes”; & a variety of courses for Duquesne’s Paralegal Institute including, “Alternative Dispute Resolution.”

In addition to a number of certifications, Bernie holds a B.A. in philosophy from Vassar College and earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Jerome M. Jackson

Jerome has been a consultant, mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, and trainer. He has also, worked in the field of human and community development, leadership and program management for non-profit, community organizations for 20 years. Since 2010, he has been the Executive Director at Operation Better Block, Inc., providing program leadership, community advocacy, strategies for community development and youth development in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh. Jerome has 20 years’ experience in consensus building and group facilitation; and is a seasoned mediator and trainer in conflict resolution.

Jerome was Associate Director at Manchester Citizens Corporation for five years, establishing policy, community outreach and oversight of finances and fundraising. He worked for the City of Pittsburgh, Office of the Mayor, Youth Policy Department for five years, developing youth leadership trainings, mentoring and assessments of youth programs.

As a consultant, Jerome’s clients include the National Center for Juvenile Justice, the State Department of Public Welfare, Pennsylvania Health Education Center, Holy Family Institute, Pittsburgh Board of Education, and Pittsburgh Mediation Center. Jerome has been an adjunct faculty at Duquesne University’s Leadership Development Program. Jerome is an approved mediator for the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Federal Court Western PA District, and the UPMC Intermediation Program.

Jerome was a member of Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He was also a Member of the Pennsylvania Balanced and Restorative Juvenile Justice Implementation Committee. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Council of Mediators and Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania.

Jerome has his formal education and training from the Community College of Allegheny & Robert Morris University/Bayer Center for Non-Profit Management.
